College of Nursing Alumni Association (CONAA)

All students graduating from University of Kentucky College of Nursing (UK CON) will be eligible for membership in this association.  As students, you may become aware of the CONAA by purchasing the required blue polo shirt as an incoming sophomore.  The alumni of the College purchase these shirts at a discount and extend the discount to the students. All profits are given back to the students to support a project of their choice. 

Another way the students meet the alums is at the White Coats and Chili Lunch where the alumni give each soon-to-graduate senior a white laboratory coat with the UK CON logo. These coats are worn during synthesis and then in professional life after graduation. Alums are also available as mentors in addition to presenting regular mentoring programs, which include talks from alums about their careers or projects as nurses.  These talks are always interesting and help the students expand their choices after graduation. 

There are four alumni awards given to students at graduation.  The Nightingale Award is given to an outstanding undergraduate, the President's Award goes to a graduate of the Master's Program, the Sebastian/Stanhope Award is presented to a D.N.P. graduate, and the Carolyn Williams Award goes to a graduate of the Ph.D. Program every year.  Many alumni have been generous to the CON and its students by establishing scholarships that help defray the cost of tuition. 

The reason the CONAA exists is to promote the best interests and welfare of the UK CON.  It also works to fully acquaint the membership with the progress and needs of the College, and helps represent the University and the College to the people of Kentucky and the nation.  The alumni association encourages loyalty and closer bonds of fellowship among its alumni.
