Scholarship Opportunities
Phyllis Antrim Briscoe Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by John Briscoe in 1972 in memory of his mother,
Phyllis Antrim Briscoe. Awarded to students who demonstrate
potential for success and describe a desire for a profession in
nursing by submission of an essay of no more than 250 words.
Preference for the scholarship(s) is given to a resident of
Kentucky who is accepted by the College of Nursing.
Marcia Boyd Donaldson Scholarship
The Marcia Boyd Donaldson Scholarship fund was established by Dr.
Elvis S. Donaldson, Jr., in memory of his wife, a 1968 alumna of
the College of Nursing. This renewable scholarship is awarded to a nursing student who is a Kentucky resident and who is
deemed financially needy.
Major Troy T. Gibson and Lt. Colonel Sally G. Siebert
Scholarship Fund in Honor and Memory of Military Nurses
This scholarship was established in 1993 by Sally Siebert, a 1985
alumna, in memory of Troy Gibson, a 1981 alumnus of the College,
shortly after Gibson's death. It is given to a sophomore
nursing student for purchasing equipment, supplies and other
necessary nursing tools.
Good Samaritan Volunteers Scholarship
Established by the Good Samaritan Volunteers Association of
Lexington, Ky. This renewable scholarship is given to
academically talented, second- or third-year nursing students who
show financial need. Recipients must be U.S. citizens and Kentucky
residents.
Good Samaritan Foundation Scholarship
Each recipient is a deserving student of the College of Nursing.
Good Samaritan Gift Shop Scholarship
Each recipient is a deserving student of the College of Nursing.
Gorman Merit Scholarship
This award is given to students enrolled in the College of Nursing
who demonstrate potential for academic excellence with preference
given to Notre Dame Academy high school graduates of Covington,
Ky., or residents of Boone, Kenton, or Campbell counties.
Doris Hatchell Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Each recipient is a deserving student of the College of Nursing.
Jean Hyder Muncy Scholarship Award
This scholarship is given in honor of a former distinguished
College of Nursing faculty member. The award is given to students
who show strong academic promise.
Nancy B. Hynson Merit Scholarship Award
Established by the College of Nursing Alumni Association as a
scholarship awarded to a senior student who has demonstrated
academic proficiency and shows evidence of financial need.
Peggy S. McClintock Scholarship
Peggy S. McClintock served as the medical center personnel
director until her death in 1988. Contributing donors have
established an endowed scholarship fund at the University of
Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in memory of her professional
expertise and enthusiasm, and her great desire to support young
people in their career endeavors. The award is given to a
third-year College of Nursing student who is a Kentucky resident
and is financially needy. Special consideration may be given to
non-traditional students. Non-traditional is defined as a student
25 or older.
Metropolitan Woman's Club Scholarship
Established in 1989 as a special scholarship for nursing students,
the Metropolitan Woman's Club Scholarship will be designated for
non-traditional (25 years or older) Kentucky women showing need
for financial assistance. It will award subsequent funds until
degree completion as long as the recipient shows progress and
maintains a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
Pamela Riggs Peters Endowment Fund
The Pamela Riggs Peters Endowment Fund was established by George
Peters, III, in memory of Pamela R. Peters. It will be given to an
incoming freshman admitted to the College of Nursing who is a
Kentucky resident and shows financial need as determined by the
University's Office of Financial Aid.
Harry and Marc Sample Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mrs. Ann Sample in memory of
her husband, Harry and her son, Marc. The scholarship will be
given to a College of Nursing student in good standing who needs
assistance purchasing books and supplies required for clinical
course work and laboratory studies.
Jane Badham Tudor Scholarship
Given to students enrolled in the College of Nursing who
demonstrate potential for academic excellence.
Mary P. Winternitz Scholarship
The Mary P. Winternitz Scholarship Fund was established by Dr.
William W. Winternitz in 1965 to pay tribute to the outstanding
qualities of this nurse, wife, and good Samaritan. An award is
granted annually to an entering freshman who through past
performance demonstrates potential for success, shows need for
financial assistance and most fully portrays the following
characteristics: communicates cheerfulness and responsiveness to
the needs of others and demonstrates warm personal relationships,
dependability, and dedication.
