Research Intern Program

Some of the basic tools and experiences needed to understand and apply evidence-based practice, or to become a successful nurse researcher, may be developed early in a nursing student’s career. At UK you can be a part of the Research Intern Program where you will begin building these skills while you are an undergraduate.

The Research Intern Program, taken as an independent study course, might be right for you. With a study’s principal investigator as mentor, a research intern may:

  • participate in monthly research team meetings
  • assist in recruitment of research subjects
  • learn the Internal Review Board (IRB) approval process for research
  • assist with screening and tracking of participants
  • assemble education materials for participants
  • assist with data management
  • learn to develop a PowerPoint presentation
  • assist in development of a research manuscript for publication

How to get involved
Interested students should develop an Independent Study Contract with a College of Nursing faculty member who conducts research. For more information, contact the Assistant Dean for the Undergraduate Program, Dorothy Brockopp, R.N., Ph.D., at dorothy.brockopp@uky.edu or
(859)323-5815.
