"Netiquette"

New social dynamics develop when we use electronic messaging. Keeping a few simple rules of thumb in mind will make this communication medium enjoyable and useful for everyone.

  • Remember that the most effective e-mail messages are short, clear and to the point.
  • Allow the person to whom you are sending an e-mail message at least 48 hours to respond. If you do not receive a reply, check to see if the person received your message.
  • Do not send lengthy attachments and expect the receiver to print them. It is easier for the recipient if you provide a printed copy of your document.
  • Acknowledge by return message that you have received an e-mail message.
