College of Nursing Alumni Association

Objectives

  • To promote the best interests and welfare of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing
  • To fully acquaint the membership of the association with the progress and needs of their alma mater
  • To assist in interpreting the University and the College, its work, and its services to the people of Kentucky and the nation
  • To encourage loyalty to the University and the College, and closer bonds of fellowship among alumni

Membership

Membership in the Association shall consist of graduates from any of the programs of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing who pay membership dues. The bylaws of the association may provide for other classes of membership in the association.

Awards

The UK College of Nursing Alumni Association gives three awards annually. Nominations for these awards are from the Association members. The Awards Committee determines the final selections. The three awards are:

Carolyn A. Williams Award

  • Ph.D. or D.N.P. graduating class
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated support of College of Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)
  • Demonstrated scholarly activity during tenure at college, which may include national, regional, local educational presentations, publications, grant funding for research, demonstrated activity in professional nursing organizations
  • Demonstration of mentoring behavior to nursing students in master's or bachelor's program
  • Recommendation by one member from Ph.D. or D.N.P. faculty with supporting letter from at least one additional faculty member from the College

Presidential Award

  • Master's program graduating class
  • GPA 3.0 or greater
  • Demonstrated support of College of Nursing activities (in additional to course requirements)
  • Demonstration of mentoring behavior to nursing student in bachelor’s degree program
  • Demonstrated involvement in professional nursing organization while a student in college
  • Recommendation by one faculty member from master’s program with supporting letter from at least one additional faculty member from the College

Nightingale Award

  • Bachelor's program graduating class
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated support of College of Nursing activities (in addition to course requirements)
  • Evidence of qualities of scholarly activity, mentoring behaviors, community service while a student
  • Nominated by at least one faculty member of the College
