Research Utilization Project Requirement
Students in the M.S.N. program are required to
complete a research utilization project as part of the
requirements for the M.S.N. degree. This project will be completed
during NUR 605 - Evidence-Based Practice. Details relating to the
project are included in the syllabus you will receive when you
register for that course.
The title of your final report must be specified on your program
of study plan filed in our Office of Student Services. The
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th
edition) is the style and format for all papers required in the
College of Nursing. See Guidelines for Scholarly Work in this
handbook.
Research Utilization Project for M.S.N. Degree
- The purposes of the project are to utilize
research and learn the research process.
- Types of projects include, but are not
confined to, the following:
- Critical reviews of the clinical research
literature and development of a clinical protocol or guideline
that reflects best practice
- Development of an innovative clinical
program
- Evaluation of a clinical program
- Research utilization projects are done under
the guidance of your faculty advisor. The student must present a
written one-three page proposal that serves as a contract. The
proposal will describe the depth and scope of the project. The
proposal must be signed and dated by both student and advisor. A
timetable for completion of the project is required.
- Projects must not require medical IRB
approval.
- Allow the fall semester for completion of the
project. Multiple drafts of the written report are almost always
necessary before the final product is completed and approved.
- Students with an "S" grade in NUR 605 from a
prior semester must submit the final paper (that has been
approved by their faculty advisor) to the assistant dean for
advanced practice nursing three weeks before comprehensive
exams.
- Your report does not have to be bound
although you should place it in a durable cover. No specific
type of paper is required and typing requirements are those for
any other written assignment. Sample title page can be found
here.
