This continuing education workshop for nurse practitioners,
nurse specialists,
and nurses
in adult primary and acute care is provided to update knowledge
of new medications for improve patient care outcomes.
This advanced pharmacology update is organized into sections
according to disease states. The pharmacology, mechanism of
action, adverse effects, interactions and dosage and
administration of select new drugs will be reviewed. The update
will also outline the general therapeutic use of the select
agents discussed and their role in pharmacotherapy as compared
to previously approved therapeutic agents traditionally used for
a specific indication.
Objectives:
Attendees will be able to:

review prescription issues: update on new laws affecting drug
approval and providers;

describe pharmacology and patient outcomes of select new drugs
approved in 2007-2008;

discuss patient adverse effects, drug indications and
clinical implications of new drugs;

compare patient outcomes for new drugs to those previously
approved.

care providers

course meets Kentucky pharmacy licensure requirements.

The Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) approves
