Faith Community Nursing- Basic Parish Nursing Institute and Update

When:  Mon.- Fri., May 12-16, 2008

Contact Hours: 35 KBN (50 minute) and 29 ANCC (60 minute)

May 15 includes one-day parish nurse update for those who received the certificate two years ago.

Description:
This week-long certificate program will promote an understanding of the role of parish nurse professionals in promoting health and wellness within the church community.

 Objectives: 

  • Describe parish nursing in the context of professional nursing.
  • Design a parish nurse program based on a congregational population and needs assessment as well as an understanding of available resources.

Faculty: Alvyne Rethemeyer, R.N., M.S.N., director of the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, St. Louis, Mo., and an experienced educator with decades of clinical practice in parish nursing.  Rethemeyer provides a dynamic insight into this intriguing and heartfelt mission.

Kay Mueggenburg, R.N., Ph.D., vice president of Education, Research, and Community Integration, Hospice of the Bluegrass, Lexington, Ky.

Rev. David Smith, R.N., C.N.A.A., B.C., C.P.H.Q., M.F.T. Associate, nursing services administrator, Kentucky Dept. for Mental Health & Mental Retardation Services, Frankfort, Ky.

Accreditation: The University of Kentucky College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

The Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) approves the University of Kentucky College of Nursing as a provider as well. KBN and ANCC approval of an individual continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content for commercial support. This educational activity will provide a maximum of 35 KBN (50 minute) contact hours and 29 ANCC (60 minute) contact hours for nurses who attend the entire program. Provider #:
