The Child Neurology program sees neonates, infants and children up to age 16 years with a variety of neurological problems. Inpatients are seen in the UK nurseries and UK Childrens Hospital. Outpatients are seen in the Kentucky Clinic (Neurology) as well as in 8 Eastern Kentucky counties where clinics are in conjunction with the Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs (CCSHCN).
The most common disorders seen by the Child Neurology group are seizures, headaches, tics, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, myopathies, and cognitive disorders including aphasia and learning disabilities. Once a month there is a Muscular Dystrophy Association affiliated clinic for children with various forms of neuromuscular disease. Children with difficult to control epilepsy are seen in conjunction with the UK Epilepsy Center. |
