Dr. Baumann is the director of the Child Neurology training program and Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics. He designed, founded and supervises the innovative system of Child Neurology out-reach clinics through which the University of Kentucky serves the children of Central and Eastern Kentucky (in conjunction with the Kentucky Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs). These clinics provide nearby care for Appalachian children as well as an opportunity for medical students and Neurology and Child Neurology residents to learn Child Neurology and the special needs of these rural children.
Dr. Baumann is especially interested in the epidemiology of neurological disorders (particularly childhood epilepsy) and in new ways to diagnose and treat these disorders. He is the author of over 65 peer reviewed articles and over 30 other articles, reviews and chapters. He is currently the Chair of the Practice Improvement Subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and a member of 5 other national committees (for the AAN, Child Neurology Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics).
