LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Dr. Phillip Tibbs, Chairman

Welcome to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Neurological Surgery Program.

Our objective is to provide an educational experience that will enable our graduates to have the skills to perform the full range of neurosurgical operations. Other objectives are the acquisition of skills to use evidence-based data to make sound clinical decisions.

Our basic science departments are ranked in the top 20 percent of NIH funded programs and offer opportunities for research experience. We have three excellent basic scientists in the Neurosurgery Department whose interests are cancer, Parkinson’s disease, blood brain barrier, and the microvascular system. Our residents have the opportunity to learn teaching skills by participating in the neuroanatomy course their second year. Most importantly, we have a group of faculty members dedicated to resident teaching as well as residents who are very intelligent from which much can be learned.

We look forward to visiting with you and sharing our program experience. We hope our site gives you a good foundation of our program. We invite you to contact our office if you have any questions.

Phillip Tibbs, MD
