UK Department of Internal Medicine Division of Nephrology

Clinical Services

The Division of Nephrology, Bone and Mineral Metabolism has five clinical faculty.  We have outpatient clinics in Lexington, including the VA Medical Center, as well as in Frankfort and Corbin, Kentucky.  In addition, we provide care to dialysis patients in Danville, Richmond, and Barbourville, Kentucky.

The expertise of our faculty is diverse and includes the care of patients with, but not limited to, the following medical problems:

  • Proteinuria
  • Hematuria
  • Diabetic nephropathy
  • Glomerular diseases, including IgA nephropathy
  • Acute and chronic renal failure
  • Inherited renal diseases, including polycystic kidney disease
  • Renal replacement therapies: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation
  • Evaluation of kidney transplant recipients and donors
  • Long-term follow-up of kidney transplant recipients
  • Disorders of fluid, electrolyte and acid-base
  • Hypertension
  • Metabolic management of nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)
  • Disorders of calcium and parathyroid hormone
  • Osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease
