PGY 630 Advanced Skeletal Muscle PhysiologyOverview - Schedule - Course Announcement - Course-related files PGY 630 Advanced Skeletal Muscle Physiology is a graduate level class designed primarily for PhD students who are working in the general area of striated muscle biology. The 2009 class is being run jointly by Drs. Karyn Esser and Kenneth Campbell. Chapter numbers refer to "The Physiology of Excitable Cells" by David Aidley (4th Edition).
This is a 2 credit class that will go into advanced and fundamental concepts about the structure and function of adult skeletal muscle. It will be a 2 hour classroom meeting with 1 hour independent study per week. The specific date, time and location of the weekly meeting is to be determined. Grading: 2 papers (90% of the grade) will be required from each student. Each paper will be approximately 2500 words in length and will present a detailed review of a structural and/or functional aspect of skeletal muscle. Ten percent (10%) of the grade will come from class participation. Textbook: For the first 50% of the class we will be using The Physiology of Excitable Cells, 4th Edition by Aidley. This book can be ordered (new or used) through Amazon or other online bookstores. Each student will need their own copy of the book. Dr. Esser and Campbell will select primary research papers for the rest of the class. Topics will include:
