| We do both behavioral studies and magnetic resonance (MR) studies. When we are
in the process of conducting a study, we place subject recruitment advertisements
around UK campus. Behavioral studies involve coming into our lab to do tasks
on the computer such as making decisions about words and usually last about
an hour. MR studies involve doing similar tasks while the MR machine images
brain activity. The MR studies take about 2 hours. The MR studies involve being
inside a doughnut shaped machine. Because the inside of the machine is quite
small, these studies are not recommended for people who suffer from claustrophobia. MR
works on radiofrequencies and not x-rays, or other ionizing radiation, and there
are no known risks in getting an MR scan if you are a healthy person. The only
known risks with MR exist for those with a heart condition or if you have any
metal in your body because the magnetic force can heat up the metal. If you
are interested in participating and/or want to know if we are conducting a study
please call 859-323-4860. Completion of a short telephone questionnaire (taking
about 10 minutes) will be needed to determine participant eligibility. |
