Dr. Stephen Strup was born and raised in a small, farming community in Northwest Ohio. He attended college at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he majored in Zoology and pre-medical studies. In addition to his studies, he played basketball for the DePauw Tigers and was tri-caption his senior year. Dr. Strup graduated from DePauw summa cum laude in 1984 and moved on to medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He received his M.D. degree in 1988 from Indiana. Dr. Strup then moved east to Philadelphia to complete two years of surgical training and four years of Urology residency at Thomas Jefferson University. He developed an interest in cancer research and after residency, completed a two year fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Strup then returned to Thomas Jefferson University where he developed his interest in minimally invasive surgery and combined this with his Oncology interests. He directed the efforts in Minimally invasive oncology at Jefferson until his move to the University of Kentucky in September of 2003. Dr. Strup now is the director of Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery within the division of Urology and holds the William S. Farish Chair of surgical research within the division of Urology. Dr. Strup has established a comprehensive minimally invasive urologic program at the University of Kentucky offering laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, renal surgery of all types, and adrenal surgery. He is pleased to be a part of the multidisciplinary minimally invasive surgery program at Kentucky.
