The folks attending the "Art of Making Miracles" had an opportunity to demonstrate their skills as honorary MIS surgeons. For the low cost of five dollars , they tried their hand at completing some of the skills exercises that are used in the UK MIS curriculum. Their five dollars also purchased them a chance to win a $600.00 Mini DVD player graciously donated by Stryker.

The Makenna Foundation is a local group of wonderful people based here in Lexington whose sole purpose is to raise funds to improve facilities and services at Children's Hospital. Like too many of these groups, The Makenna Foundation was inspired by heartbreak. Greg and Sheila David, lost their daughter, Makenna, to a rare lung disorder. They have turned their tragedy into a quest to make UK Children's Hospital better. Their efforts have already resulted in the purchase of a new peds bronchoscope for Pediatric Pulmonolgy, the creation and installation of a tile memory wall at the entrance of Children's Hospital and the construction of a pediatric Hematology/Oncology Sedation room in the KY clinic.

Their latest project is an ambitious effort to raise enough funds to build a Pediatric Emergency Room over the next 5 years. This is a huge undertaking and deserves the support of all of us who live and work in Lexington and need excellent children's facilities to take care of our loved ones. Throughout the next several months, there will be events around the city that you can attend to show your support for this very worthwhile cause.
