Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics
Dr. Cary completed his med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky in 2008, serving as the med-peds chief resident his last year. Afterwards, he served as chief resident in Pediatrics 2008-2009. Dr. Cary attends on pediatric services and precepts in the med-peds continuity clinic, where he is Med-Peds Continuity Clinic Director.

Assistant Professor Medicine and Pediatrics
Dr. Dearinger completed medical school at the University of Kentucky and completed her med-peds residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2005. She completed an academic medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in 2007, and earned a Masters degree in Public Health. She currently has joint appointments with the College of Medicine and the College of Public Health. She is board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics, and attends on the internal medicine wards and in the med-peds continuity clinic.

Residency Program Director of Internal Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine
Dr. Griffith completed a med-peds residency, and then completed a two-year general internal medicine fellowship and earned his Master's of Science in Public Health degree at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. Dr. Griffith received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee He is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics. Dr. Griffith was the clerkship director of internal medicine for third-year medical students from 1993 until 2007. This is his first year as Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. His teaching skills have been duly recognized, he has received more teaching awards than any other faculty member not only for the College of Medicine, but also for the entire University of Kentucky.
He serves as an attending physician in the med-peds continuity clinic and on the general medicine wards, and develops and implements various aspects of the residents' ambulatory curriculum.

Dr. Duke received her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana, and completed her med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. She completed a fellowship in general internal medicine at the University of Washington and Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Seattle. Board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics, she is a leader in teaching and advising activities within the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Dr. Duke was the program director at the University of Kentucky for 10 years, stepping down in 2005. She has served as Governor for the American College of Physicians Kentucky Chapter since 2006.

Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics - Hospitalist Program
Dr. Bailey completed medical school at the University of Kentucky and completed her med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky in 2004. She completed an academic medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in 2006, and earned a Masters degree in Health Administration. She attends on both the internal medicine and pediatric wards.
Assistant Professor of Medicine - Hospitalist Program
Dr. Roy completed medical school at the University of Kentucky and completed his med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky in 2006. He is now a member of the hospitalist team at UK, working on both the internal medicine and pediatric wards.
Assistant Professor Medicine - Veteran's Administration Medical Center
Dr. McCoy completed medical school at the University of Kansas and completed his med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky in 2006. He is now works as a VAMC internal medicine hospitalist, and works in the pediatrics clinic at UK.
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics - Pulmonary
Dr. Anstead received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed a med-peds internship at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He finished his residency in med-peds at the UK Chandler Medical Center, where he also completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine in 1996. Dr. Anstead is the director of the adult cystic fibrosis program.
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics - Neonatology
Dr. Ballard received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed his med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky in 2000. Afterwards, he served as chief resident for Pediatrics prior to completing his neonatology fellowship at UK. He attends in the Neonative Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Assistant Professor of Medicine - Gastroenterology
Dr. Auer received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed her med-peds training at the University of Kentucky in 2002. After residency, she served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics prior to beginning her fellowship. She is currently in her last year of an adult gastroenterology fellowship.
Assistant Professor of Medicine - Pulmonary & Sleep
Dr. Hays received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed his med-peds training at the East Carolina University in 2002. Following residency, he completed a pulmonary and sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. He currently works with both children and adults in the cystic fibrosis clinic and in the sleep disorders clinic.
Assistant Professor of Medicine - Hematology-Oncology
Dr. Howard received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed her med-peds training at the University of Kentucky in 1995. After residency, she completed a Hematology-Oncology fellowship at UK and is currently a faculty member in UK's Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. Her work has focused on the care of leukemia and bone-marrow transplant patients.
Assistant Professor of Medicine - Infectious Disease
Dr. Murphy received his medical degree from the University of Louisville and completed his med-peds training at the University of Kentucky in 2003. He completed an infectious disease fellowship at the University of Kentucky in 2005. As an attending in the Bluegrass Care Clinic, he provides care to children and adults with HIV. He is currently working on a vaccine discovery project against Yersinia pestis.
Professor of Pediatrics - Cardiology
Dr. Schneider received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico and completed his med-peds training at the University of Kentucky in 1992. He completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship at the in 1995.
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine - Endocrinology
Dr. Smith completed his med-peds residency at the University of North Carolina College of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC, where he also completed a fellowship in endocrinology. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Duke University School Of Medicine in Durham, N. C. Dr. Smith is board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, endocrinology, and diabetes and metabolism for internal medicine and pediatrics.
Dr. Alvarado received his medical degree from Loma Linda and is a 1998 graduate of the University of Kentucky Med-Peds program. He has a thriving med-peds primary care practice in Winchester, KY.
Dr. Andreas received his medical degree from the University of California at Davis and is a 1994 graduate of the University of Kentucky Med-Peds program. Following his residency, he opened a primary care med-peds practice in Winchester, KY.
Dr. Besson received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and is a 1998 graduate of our Med-Peds program. After his residency, he served as chief resident of internal medicine prior to opening his med-peds primary care practice in Cynthiana and Carlisle, KY.
Dr. Bradburn received his medical degree from Texas A&M University and is a 2003 graduate of the University of Kentucky Med-Peds program. He currently has a primary care med-peds practice in Winchester, KY.
Dr. Hall received his medical degree from the University of Louisville and completed his med-peds residency at the University of Kentucky in 1994. He currently has a thriving primary care med-peds practice in Mt. Sterling, KY.
Dr. Harvey received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky and is a 2004 graduate of the University of Kentucky Med-Peds program, serving as med-peds chief resident in her final year. She has a primary care med-peds practice in Loveland, OH.
Dr. Pica received her medical degree from the University of Florida and is a 1994 graduate of the University of Kentucky Med-Peds program. Following residency, she opened a primary care med-peds practice in Winchester, KY.
Dr. McGinnis received his medical degree from the University of Louisville and completed his med-peds residency at Ohio State University in 1994. He currently has a primary care med-peds practice in Mt. Sterling, KY.
Dr. McKemie received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed a med-peds residency at Emory University in 1982. He has a primary care med-peds practice in Cynthiana and Carlisle, KY.

Every Med-Peds resident is assigned one med-peds trained faculty advisor from the numerous faculty members listed above. The purpose of the adviser system is to provide you with a personal faculty contact who can address any issues you might want to discuss in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Residents meet with their advisors every six months. In addition to this arrangement, the faculty and upper-level residents at UK pride themselves on being approachable and are always willing to listen to any concerns you might have.
