Welcome from the Chiefs

Hello and welcome to the University of Kentucky Med-Peds site! We're delighted that you're interested in our program, and would like to tell you a little bit about why we love it here.

Choosing your residency is a complicated process: trying to balance the educational approaches with the community you want to be a part of, all the while making sure you like the people you spend most of your time with, can seem an insurmountable task.  Here at UK, one of our greatest strengths is the warmth and camaraderie that exists within our program.  We truly enjoy each other's company, which makes the challenging times much easier to face, and outside of the hospital setting, we often choose to spend our free time together.  In addition to monthly journal clubs and our fall and spring switch parties, we have frequent impromptu and informal gatherings, watching sporting events or celebrating holidays together.  We are genuinely a second family here in our program, deriving strength and support from our co-workers.

UK Med Peds has a history of producing strong, diverse clinicians. Our graduates go to work in all areas, from academics, to subspecialties, to primary care providers.  Our residents are respected throughout the hospital and community for their academic and clinical abilities.  There is a robust Med-Peds presence among our faculty as well, with many of our subspecialty and hospitalist attendings being Med-Peds trained, and several community Med-Peds physicians that we have the opportunity to rotate with.  Furthermore, Med-Peds faculty are very well represented in our leadership, in addition to Dr. Curtis Cary, who leads our combined program, Dr. Chris Feddock, the Internal Medicine program director, and Dr. Jenna Ross, the Pediatrics program director, are both Med-Peds trained.  This representation across so many of our experiences means that our unique situations and perspectives are understood and accounted for, and that our teaching can incorporate the spectrum of ages and presentations that are seen in Med-Peds.  What's more, our programs constantly work to refine and improve our training.  Medicine, Pediatrics, and Med-Peds have all continually implemented changes initiated by resident feedback and initiative, making this a great place to work.

Of course, we aren't always in the hospital, and when we do leave, Lexington is a great place to be.  Big city amenities are found in a charming small city setting, with beautiful scenery surrounding you every day.  Hiking, climbing, and rafting are all convenient day trips to make from the city.  Keeneland hosts horse racing every spring and fall.  In addition to concerts and shows that come to Rupp Arena and other venues, there are also more regularly scheduled events such as Thursday Night Live with music, Shakespeare in the Park, and farmers' markets located throughout the city.

We have certainly enjoyed our time here, and would choose UK again.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about our program, and we hope to see you soon!picture of UK Med-Peds Chief Residents Megan Powell, MD and Priya Veeraraghavan, MD
