Mentoring Program
The Health Center Student Diversity and Enrichment Services office sponsors a Mentoring Program to connect current medical students with alumni in various graduate and health profession programs. The exchange of information regarding real-life experiences and encouraging lifelong professional development is an integral part of the mentor protégé relationship.

Mentors and medical students are matched based on similar career choices, research and common personal interest. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for medical students to build networking skills and relationships to aid in future employment opportunities. The program is intended to create an atmosphere that will contribute to fostering a welcoming and comfortable learning environment for medical students.

For more information on the Mentoring Program, contact the Health Center Student Diversity and Enrichment Services office at (859) 257-5196.

Hispanic Health Fair
Since 2000, first-year medical students organize and participate in every aspect of this annual one-day event providing free health care information and basic medical screenings to the growing Hispanic population of the Fayette County community. Students from the Colleges of Dentistry and Agriculture also participate in the Hispanic Health Fair. Medical students fluent in Spanish act as interpreters for the event. Programming is designed to encourage families to attend and participate in the fair.

Salvation Army Free Medical Clinic
Established in 1986, the Salvation Army Free Medical Clinic is a student-run clinic that provides free medical care to the indigent patient population of our community. Medical students oversee every aspect of the administration and running of the clinic. The clinic generally meets two nights each week. College of Medicine faculty and residents from a variety of clinical departments volunteer their time at the clinic and provide supervision to the medical students. Additionally, students from other UK health science colleges volunteer their time at the clinic.
