Shoulder to Shoulder Global
In 2002, Thomas L. Young, M.D., associate professor of Pediatrics, led a global health medical mission trip to Ecuador with a small group of five pediatric residents. This effort has grown into Shoulder to Shoulder Global, operating a full-time health clinic in a village in Ecuador and offering internships for UK students and medical residents in Ecuador. More than 100 students and volunteers participate in these medical brigades each year.

For more information on the Shoulder to Shoulder Global program, contact Alex Holl, program coordinator, at (859) 257-5678 or alexghh@uky.edu.

Medical Mission Ecuador
More than 20 years ago, Henry C. Vasconez, M.D., professor of Surgery and Pediatrics, established Medical Mission Ecuador. Each February, medical professionals work together to heal sick children in Ambato, Ecuador performing surgeries to correct various congenital malformations such as cleft lip and palate, malformed ears and club feet. A native of Ambato, Vasconez and his team continue to provide the gift of hope through medical and surgical services to many of the local patients each year.

For more information on the Medical Mission Ecuador program, contact Beatrice Engels, program coordinator, at medicalmissionecuador@gmail.com.
