Dean's Welcome

I made the right choice when I became dean of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and vice president for clinical affairs in 2004. When asked why I came to UK, I say it was the people. People make the difference at the UK College of Medicine – students, faculty and staff.

Because of our outstanding people, the UK College of Medicine is a leader in education, research and clinical service. The College provides innovative, high-quality education. In fact, UK developed the Kentucky Medical Curriculum, which is a nationally recognized model emphasizing early clinical experiences, integration of the basic and clinical sciences, and innovative teaching methods such as problem-based learning and standardized patients.

UK has some of the brightest researchers in the country working to develop cures and treatments for Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Our groundbreaking research improves the lives of Kentuckians as well as people across the nation.

Speaking of improving lives, we have some of the most sought-after clinicians in the nation. UK Chandler Hospital is the hospital of choice for advanced subspecialty care for Kentuckians, and more and more out-of-state patients are choosing UK for their care.

Of course, the fact that we are located in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in America doesn't hurt either. Lexington offers urban appeal with small-town hospitality and is the quintessential college town.
