Kentuckians have two chances to benefit the Markey Cancer Foundation this month thanks to the charitable efforts of a pair of local businesses.
UK Leads National Childhood Leukemia Study
UK HealthCares Kentucky Childrens Hospital researchers will lead a national study for children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The study is based on laboratory research that was performed at UKs Markey Cancer Center. The principal investigator for the national study is Dr. Jeff Moscow, vice chair and professor of pediatrics, division of hematology/oncology, University of Kentucky College of Medicine and a physician at Kentucky Childrens Hospital.
Smoke Free Laws Dont Impact Employee Turnover
In a recent study published in Contemporary Economic Policy, Ellen Hahn, professor in the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, found that smoke-free laws do not negatively impact employee turnover. The report , “Smoke-Free Laws and Employee Turnover,” was the first of its kind to examine the impact of smoke-free laws on the restaurant labor market.
Golden Corral 5K for Kentucky Kids
Walk or run to help Kentucky kids. Golden Corrals 5K Run/Walk is on Saturday, May 24, at Coldstream Park, 1875 Newtown Pike, Lexington. The event will benefit Kentucky Childrens Hospital. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the 5K begins at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $25 per person.
Sanders-Brown Receives NIH Funding
The University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, under the leadership of Dr. William R. Markesbery, director of the center and its Alzheimer’s Disease Center, Commonwealth Chair in Aging, and professor of pathology and neurology in the UK College of Medicine, has received two major grants from the National Institutes of Healths (NIH) National Institute on Aging (NIA).
