Frederick C. de Beer, M.D., Dean, Vice President for Clinical Academic Affairs and Professor of Internal Medicine
Dean de Beer oversees the entire medical school, which includes the education of future physicians and scientists, all clinical and basic science research, and the clinical services provided by UK physicians. Dean de Beer also holds a faculty appointment as professor of Internal Medicine.

Robert T. Means Jr., M.D., Executive Vice Dean and Associate Dean for Veterans Affairs
Dr. Means is responsible for providing operational guidance to the academic endeavors of the College of Medicine as well as assisting the College of Medicine leadership team in the development and implementation of initiatives. In his role as Associate Dean for Veterans Affairs he has primary oversight of the College’s interactions with the Lexington VA Medical Center. Dr. Means also serves as professor and senior associate chair of Internal Medicine.

Alan Daugherty, Ph.D., D.Sc., Senior Associate Dean for Research
Dr. Daugherty oversees the development of the College’s research portfolio and its alignment with the University’s Top 20 Plan. His responsibilities include leadership and management of several College intramural and departmental research training programs in collaboration with the senior associate dean for basic science affairs.

Michael B. Reid, Ph.D., Senior Associate Dean for Biomedical Science
Dr. Reid is responsible for strategic academic planning as well as prioritizing the allocation of resources. Dr. Reid also serves as Chair of Physiology.

C. Darrell Jennings Jr., M.D., Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education
Dr. Jennings oversees all aspects of the Office of Medical Education, including medical student admissions, student affairs, curriculum, student evaluation and program assessment; Graduate Medical Education; the Clinical Skills Training and Assessment Center; and the combined degree programs: M.D./Ph.D., B.S./M.D., M.D./MBA, M.D./MPH. Dr. Jennings, a pathologist, is also professor and Director of Immunopathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Paul DePriest, M.D., M.H.C.M., Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs
Dr. DePriest oversees all matters related to the clinical services offered by the College of Medicine’s faculty. Dr. DePriest is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and chief medical officer.

Carol Elam, Ed.D., Associate Dean for Admissions and Institutional Advancement
Dr. Elam oversees the recruitment and admission of medical students, serves as director of medical education research, and develops and promotes the advancement of the institutional image for the UK College of Medicine. Dr. Elam is a professor in the Department of Behavioral Science.

James Norton, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Educational Engagement; and Director of UK HealthCare CECentral
Dr. Norton is responsible for the management of the College of Medicine’s educational activities beyond the Lexington campus, spanning the continuum of education from health career pipeline efforts to continuing medical education. In this role, Norton also oversees the Rural Physician Leadership Program's regional clinical education sites in Morehead and Murray, providing general supervision, strategic planning guidance and public advocacy. He also serves as director of UK HealthCare CECentral – the administrative unit responsible for managing continuing education for physicians and pharmacists within and outside of UK.

Rosemarie Conigliaro, M.D., Senior Assistant Dean, Curriculum
Dr. Conigliaro directs the Undergraduate Medical Education/Graduate Medical Education Curriculum Office and oversees the Standardized Patient and Simulation Programs. She provides faculty support and guidance to course and program directors in the development of multiple learning activities and methods. Dr. Conigliaro also provides direct oversight of quality assurance programs and faculty development related to curriculum initiatives.

Charles Griffith, M.D., Associate Dean for Student Affairs
Dr. Griffith oversees all aspects of the Student Affairs Office, including Financial Aid, Student Services, Registrar, Humanities and Professional code Committees. He works directly with all medical students from the time they begin medical school until graduation providing academic and career counseling. Dr. Griffith also serves as professor on Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

Sandra Jaros, Assistant Dean, Administration
Ms. Jaros is responsible for directing the administrative operations of the College of Medicine. This includes such items as administrative process development, improvement and enforcement. She also directs the information technology efforts for the College in conjunction with those of the UK HealthCare enterprise. Ms. Jaros is the department administrator for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Carlos Marin, Assistant Dean for Community and Cultural Engagement
Mr. Marin oversees UK’s Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program, which includes the Health Careers Pipeline Program, and provides guidance and support to regional AHEC directors. He also serves as the College’s primary representative in areas of community and cultural engagement. He collaborates with College of Medicine faculty and staff to continue implementation of initiatives to increase representation of students and faculty from rural and minority populations and assist students and faculty in identifying opportunities for community engagement. Additionally, he chairs the Dean’s Diversity Advisory Committee.

Susan M. McDowell, M.D., Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education
Dr. McDowell serves as the assistant dean and designated institutional official for all the Graduate Medical Education training programs. As such she is responsible for program oversight and compliance with all accreditation standards and leading the institution’s GME improvement process. Dr. McDowell, a physiatrist, is an associate professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Terry D. Stratton, Ph.D., Assistant Dean, Assessment and Quality Management
Dr. Stratton coordinates evaluation and assessment activities within the College of Medicine – including test development/scoring and faculty/course/curricular evaluation. His office also oversees administration and scoring of the Clinical Performance Exam. Dr. Stratton is an assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral Science.
