Education

  • Approximately 92 percent of all medical students receive some form of financial aid and 46 percent benefit from scholarship awards.

  • UK is one of a few medical schools to offer a tuition guarantee program. This guarantees each entering class a set tuition that will remain constant for the four years they are enrolled in medical school.

  • In 2011, UK medical students matched into 21 different specialties for residency. Twenty-four percent elected to stay within the UK HealthCare system, and an additional 6 percent elected to stay in Kentucky for residency.

  • The college has one of 10 triple-board residency programs in the nation where residents can train in Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Pediatrics.

  • The college has more than 8,000 alumni, including medical students, graduate research students and house staff, who practice in all 50 states and several countries around the world.

  • UK is one of a few universities to have all six health science colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Sciences) all on the same university campus making it well-positioned for interprofessional health care education and collaborative research.

  • In 2010, researchers at George Washington University ranked UK among the top 20 medical schools in the United States based upon its “social mission score,” representing the percentage of graduates who practice primary care, work in underserved areas or are underrepresented minorities.

  • The college has developed regional sites in Morehead and the Purchase area of Western Kentucky as part of the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP) for those students interested in rural health care.
