Support Services, Research and Grants

Consultation with COM faculty and staff regarding design, implementation, data collection and data analyses often occurs for policy, applied and evaluative research endeavors. Recent research projects that our division staff have investigated include the reliability of standardized patients' assessment of medical students' clinical skills, use of trained raters to evaluate faculty teaching performance and the value of adding an oral examination component to assess medical students' knowledge of pathology.

Our division also provides program evaluation services for a variety of grants that impact the medical school curriculum. Spirituality in medicine, clinical performance testing, professionalism, managed care, complementary and alternative medicine, and service learning are some of the recent education-related grants on which we have worked.

Past projects in which our division has contributed to include the University of Kentucky hospital staff annual survey, various administrative activities (faculty surveys, ballots, etc.), and numerous ad hoc research projects.
