Examination Services

Our division is charged with providing examination services to both faculty and students at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.

Examination design consultation, in which exam content is reviewed with faculty for reliable and valid item writing strategies, is available. Student assessments may be reviewed for various examination formats (multiple choice, performance-based, rating scales, oral or problem-based learning).

For examination scoring services, a set of exam feedback reports/grades (e.g., student reports, faculty sub test reports, item analyses, exam reliability, etc.) is provided for approximately 100 exams per academic year. Our office primarily scores objective-based examinations throughout the four-year medical curriculum, which are routinely administered via scantron forms. Our policy is to provide preliminary examination feedback reports to faculty/course directors within 48 business hours of receiving exam materials. After reviewing the statistical analyses of the items, student performance, and graphical and tabular data in the preliminary reports, item revisions may be made, wherein statistical reports are regenerated to faculty, including (if requested) individual feedback reports to the students.
