Clinical Performance Examination (CPX)A comprehensive clinical performance examination is administered to medical students at the end of their third year curriculum. The exam tests medical students’ basic clinical skills by using standardized patient encounters in typical inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings (average 12 station exam). Administration of the exam occurs at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Learning Center, located at 807 South Limestone. Completion of this exam is a graduation requirement. Our office coordinates and administers this exam, which runs approximately 8 days after the final rotation of the third year in mid-July. Statistical summary reports and student performance results are shared with members of the Student Progress and Promotions Committee. Individual remediation may occur for students who perform poorly on multiple stations and/or in certain clinical areas, such as Communication Skills or Physical Exam, for example. Students typically receive individual summary reports in September, comparing their individual performance on each station and clinical area with the overall class average.
