Annual Events
Academic Convocation and Awards Day
A college-wide convocation is held each fall to acknowledge the accomplishments of the previous academic year and to encourage even greater success in the new year.
Humanities Festival
The Office of Academic Affairs sponsors fall and spring festivals to showcase the talent of the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Medicine and throughout the medical center. The programs include displays of artwork, photography, and poetry, as well as musical and theatrical performances.
AOA Research Day
During the winter the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society hosts a research day for the recognition of student research in the College of Medicine. Selected students present the results of their research to an audience of their peers, faculty and a panel of judges. In addition a guest lecturer is invited to speak on a current national research topic.
Caduceus Ball
During the late winter or early spring the Medical Student Government (MSGA) plans a semi-formal dance for the entire college. Faculty and students are encouraged to attend a fun evening of dancing, food and fellowship.
Match Day
There is a special day each March when graduating medical students across the country learn where they will go for residency. Students at UK learn of their matches at a lunch-time event surrounded by family, friends and fellow students. Members of all classes are welcome to join in the festivities.
Scholarship Banquet
Each spring the Medical Alumni Association hosts a banquet to bring together scholarship recipients with representatives of the sponsoring donors.
Charity Roast
It is a tradition for one of the medical school classes to organize an annual fundraising banquet at which a prominent figure in university life is "roasted" by the class. Proceeds are donated to charities chosen by the guest of honor.
Lampoons
The Medical Student Government sponsors Lampoons each Spring. Lampoons provides an opportunity for each class to present skits of their lives as medical students. Faculty and administration are also invited to "poke fun" at the students.
Senior Brunch and Graduation
Each year's senior class works with Student Affairs and the Medical Alumni Association to plan the Senior Brunch and Awards program on the morning of Graduation. Academic hoods and Diplomas are presented during Saturday afternoon graduation ceremonies in the Concert Hall of the Singletary Center for the Arts on the University campus. A reception for graduates and their guests is held immediately following the graduation program.
