Fall 2009 Electives for Second-Year Medical Students

What are these courses?
Electives are offered to provide students an opportunity to pursue individual interests. Electives are not a part of your required curriculum and, thus, enrollment is optional. All electives are pass/fail. Each student may take only one elective per semester.

When will Fall electives be offered?
Fall electives will be offered from the week of August 17 through the week of November 30. These electives are for second-year medical students.

Independent study options:
A student may arrange her or his own elective with any faculty member in the College of Medicine through an independent study format. A course description must be submitted with the Registration Form (PDF).

Main campus course options:
Students may take other University courses as electives, provided that schedules do not conflict and there is space available. (Distance Learning courses are not available.) Turn in a Registration Form (PDF) that includes the course title, course and section numbers, and instructor name to Beth Hartmann, COM Registrar .

How to Register an Elective

  1. Complete a Registration Form (PDF) - EVERY LINE.
  2. Have the form signed by the instructor or contact person -OR- obtain approval via email and forward the message that contains the approval to Beth Hartmann, COM Registrar.
  3. Return the form to the Registrar (138 Leader Ave.) no later than Friday, August 14.
  4. You may drop an elective at any time with no consequences provided you inform the course director and registrar.  If you obtain approval for an elective but then decide not to turn in a registration form, you need to inform the course director immediately.
