COURSE TITLE: Clinical Genetics

Objectives:

  1. To become familiar with genetic syndromes and differences of structure in children and families.
  2. To gain insight into the multiple etiologies of genetic diseases and dysmorphic conditions.
  3. To understand the pathogenesis, molecula basis and hereditary aspects of genetic and dysmorphologic conditions.

CONTENT AND METHOD OF TEACHING:

  • Students will be introduced to the fundamental principles and vocabulary of genetic and dysmorphologic syndromes.
  • They will have the opportunity to see patients with Dr. Bay and the Genetics team.
  • They will learn the fundamentals of laboratory and molecular genetic testing.
  • They will learn the fundamentals of genetic diagnosis and counseling, including prenatal diagnosis.

REQUIREMENTS: Regular attendance

CREDIT HOURS: 1

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 1 (Must obtain signature from Dr. Bay)

MEETING DATE/TIME: To be arranged with Dr. Bay.
