Visiting Student Information
The Fourth-Year Visiting Student Program offers eligible medical students at other universities an opportunity to complete clinical clerkships with specialists at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
Eligibility
- You must be a fourth-year medical student in good standing at the time of your rotation.
- You must be enrolled in a school that is accredited by the United States Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- You must be current on all of your immunizations. including measles, mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis and Tuberculosis.
- You may do no more than three visiting rotations at the University of Kentucky.
Application Process
- Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year (beginning July 1, 2008) will not be processed until May 1, 2008.

The Fourth-Year Course Catalog includes details of fourth year rotations. You may apply for any course listed in the catalog except:
- ANS-890 Anesthesiology off-site
- DR-890 Diagnostic Radiology off-site
- ER-890 Emergency Medicine off-site
- FP-841 Family Practice off-site
- FP-853 International Clerkship in Primary Care
- FP-854 Acting Internship in Rural Family Practice
- MD-840 Dean's Colloquium
- MD-842 Advanced Clinical Pharmacology and Anesthesiology
- MED-890 Internal Medicine off-site
- OBG-890 Obstetrics and Gynecology off-site
- OPH -890 Ophthalmology off-site
- PED-890 Community Pediatrics
- PSC-890 Psychiatry off-site
- SUR-890 Surgery off-site
Application Process
- Applications for the 2007-2008 academic year (beginning July 1, 2007) will not be processed until May 1, 2007.
- Complete the Application For Visiting Student Elective (PDF).
- Have the Dean or authorized official from your medical school complete the section on page two, sign and affix the school's seal.
- Send the completed application along with a non-refundable $50.00 application fee to the address below.
- Allow at least four weeks from receipt date of your application for a response. You will be notified by both e-mail and United States mail of the response to your application.
- If you are accepted for a visiting student rotation and decide not to accept it or to withdraw from it you must notify Renee Seidel, visiting student coordinator, at least one month prior to the start of the rotation. Failure to provide notification of withdrawal from an approved rotation will be reported to the Dean of your medical school.
- Do not contact the clinical department until after you have submitted an application to the Office of Medical Education.
