OverviewStudents accepted into this program complete the first three years of the recommended undergraduate biology curriculum followed by the traditional four years of medical school. Students are awarded the B.A. or B.S. degree after successful completion of the first year of medical school, and are then awarded the M.D. degree after successful completion of all medical school requirements. High school students interested in the B.S./B.A./M.D Accelerated Course of Study must declare Biology as their major and apply to both the University of Kentucky and to the Academic Scholarship Program (information about admission into the B.S./B.A./M.D program can be found at http://www.mc.uky.edu/meded/bsmd/admissions.asp). After being accepted into the program, students must take the MCAT during their second undergraduate year. The summer after their second undergraduate year, students apply to the UK College of Medicine for possible admission into the UK College of Medicine after year three. While there is no guarantee of admission to the UK College of Medicine, meeting the minimum B.S./B.A./M.D. program expectations (outlined in the Program Outline), exceptional performance on the MCAT, demonstrated maturity, and continued commitment to the medical field will make students very competitive for admission. The standard progress of a B.S./B.A./M.D student is represented below. However, the B.S./B.A./M.D program may be adjusted to give a student more time to explore research, fellowships, study abroad, or other personal opportunities.
