Dr. Jay Perman is one of a relatively few medical school deans in the United States who is also a practicing physician. Several days each month, Dr. Perman leads Dean's Clinic, treating pediatric gastroenterology patients. Dean's Clinic offers a unique educational opportunity to third-year medical students at the UK College of Medicine as well as nursing students and residents. It's beneficial to all involved: Students are engaged in bedside learning and see the dean practicing medicine. Dr. Perman is able to train students and residents in an inter-professional environment. Patients benefit from Dr. Perman's expertise.
