Admissions Policy As a public medical school, preference is given to Kentucky residents, however, a number of well-prepared nonresidents are accepted each year. Successful out-of-state candidates are those whose overall records compare favorably with resident applicants and those who have a clear interest in pursuing their medical education and medical practice in Kentucky. Competitive academic averages for screening out-of-state students in 2007 were 3.7 science and cumulative GPAs and MCAT scores of at least 30 cumulative with no subscore below 8. The College of Medicine will accept applications for advanced standing from students currently enrolled in LCME-accredited medical schools. A very limited number of qualified applicants may be accepted on a space-available basis. These decisions cannot be made until late in the academic year. In considering qualified applicants for advanced-standing admission, priority is given to in-state residents and to spouses of faculty members, house officers, fellows, and students. The class is typically filled by early January. For fullest consideration, applications should be completed well before published deadline dates. Because ethics and values are an intergral part of the practice of medicine, the College of Medicine seeks students who have demonstrated high moral and ethical standards in their daily lives. The College of Medicine reserves the right to verify references and to solicit information on applicants from people who would be familiar with their personal attributes. The University of Kentucky College of Medicine does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, ethinicity, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, or disability in matters of admission, employment, housing, services, or in the education programs or activities it operates. |
