At the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, we believe one of our unique advantages is that our faculty care about each one of our students. Here, it’s not just words or a mere mission statement we hang on our walls. At UK, we believe one-on-one interaction is vital to the success of our medical students.

At UK, we take pride in educating future physicians and scientists. But don’t take our word for it. Here are just a few of the awards and recognitions we have recently achieved.

  • In 2007, UK became one of only four institutions in the nation to offer a tuition guarantee pilot program – providing students the ability to better plan their financial obligations while attending medical school.
  • UK developed the Kentucky Medical Curriculum, which is a recognized model for other medical colleges around the nation, emphasizing early clinical experiences, integration of the basic and clinical sciences, and innovative teaching methods, such as problem-based learning and standardized patients.
  • One hundred fifteen of our physicians were named to last year’s list of Best Doctors in America®.
  • UK is on the cutting-edge in medical research with contracts and grants exceeding $134 million in fiscal year 2010, including in excess of $88 million in National Institutes of Health Funding.
  • UK is one of only eight institutions in the world to be recognized in the 2004 Academic Medicine for our medical education research productivity.
  • In 2010, UK was ranked among the top 20 medical schools in the United States based upon its "social mission score" representing the percentage of graduates who practice primary care, work in under served areas or are underrepresented minorities.
  • UK developed the nation’s first and consistently top ranked Department of Behavioral Science, which assists in developing students’ interest in public health and patient assessment.
