Financial Support

The MD/PhD student receives a stipend designed to be competitive nationally. The stipend during medical school (M1, M2, M3, and M4) for the 2012-2013 academic year is $22,000. The stipend can be supplemented by participating in the Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship or the Clinical and Translational Science Professional Student Mentored Research Fellowship. Graduate school stipends are provided by the student’s dissertation department. The graduate student stipend is $23,500 for 12 months. MD/PhD students also receive a waiver of tuition for the duration that they are enrolled in medical and graduate school. Stipend and support are contingent upon the student remaining in good standing in the MD/PhD Program.

2013-2014 year.   While in Medical School, the MD/PhD Program does not pay for Health/Hospitalization Insurance. Students who have questions about the student health insurance program offered by the University of Kentucky should contact the University Health Service, Room B163, Kentucky Clinic. Students with research interests at the interface of Medicine and Engineering can apply for the prestigious Halcomb Fellow Award, which provides $25,000 per year for two years for a research project directed by dual mentors from an engineering discipline and the biomedical sciences.
