Best of Kentucky Technology Awards 2006

This inaugural presentation of the Best of Kentucky Technology awards recognizes the work, vision and drive of the Commonwealth's brightest public officials and IT professionals. Fifty nominations were evaluated for awards in the categories of Leadership, Excellence in Project Management, Best Application Serving a Public Organization’s Business Needs, Best Application Serving the Public, Best IT Collaboration, Most Innovative Use of Technology and finally the highest honor, the Unbridled Spirit IT Visionary Award. Selecting a few for recognition from among such an outstanding field was truly a challenge.

This year's winners were determined by a judge’s panel of nine IT professionals from state and local government and the private sector. Winners were chosen for their efforts to improve the lives of Kentucky’s citizens and businesses through technology. Their efforts have helped to restore the public’s faith in government by improving access to government, facilitating communication, keeping citizens safe and healthy, and improving the efficiency of the day-to-day government operations that make Kentucky work.

Awards for the Best Application Serving the Public Award, are presented to the individuals and teams that have designed, developed and deployed applications that directly deliver more efficient services to the public.

Rob Sprang, director of the Kentucky TeleCare Network and Dr. Kim Williams of the TeleHealth Board receive a Best Application Serving the Public Award for the Kentucky Telehealth Network. Director, Kentucky TeleCare Network, Rob Sprang and Dr. Kim Williams, TeleHealth Network Board, were honored for Kentucky Telehealth Network, the Network battles two of Kentucky’s most devastating problems - poor health and poverty - by providing medical care through interactive videoconferencing and peripheral medical devices at 70 healthcare facilities across the Commonwealth.
