Patrick Ward, MPH

Epidemiologist, Enhanced State Opioid Overdose Surveillance Program

Patrick is an Epidemiologist working on the Enhanced State Opioid Overdose Surveillance (ESOOS) program. He focuses on analyzing how key risk factors relate to fatal opioid overdoses across the state of Kentucky. Additionally, he works on developing ways to more rapidly report on these risk factors to the community.


Patrick holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a Master of Public Health from Saint Louis University. During his Master’s program, he worked on research investigating the effect of ambient air pollution on adverse birth outcomes in China. He is currently a PhD student in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Kentucky, interested in investigating how spatial statistics and social network analysis can be used to investigate opioid abuse.
