IBS Financial Aid Package: IBS awards a full financial aid package to all admitted students, unless a student has already received external funding. This financial aid package includes both in-state and out-of-state tuition, stipend support, health insurance and payment of fees. The IBS stipend for 2006-2007 is $21,000 for 12 months. The IBS financial aid package offered each student may include a fellowship and/or research assistantship. However, every student will receive the same stipend amount, regardless of funding source.
NOTE:There is no separate application procedure for the financial aid award process.
Post-Qualifying Stipend Increase: There is an additional $1,000 in stipend support following successful completion of the qualifying examination. In addition, there are periodic raises specific to stipends of graduate research assistants in the College of Medicine. Students continue to receive this support during their doctoral program as long as they remain in good academic standing and make satisfactory progress toward the doctoral degree, as determined by their doctoral program.
External Fellowships: Once past the IBS year, all graduate students are encouraged to seek external funding, either through private foundations, such as the American Heart Association, or from federal programs, such as NSF or NIH. Receipt of a prestigious fellowship is a positive addition to a student’s C.V. and establishes a track record of outside funding support.
Graduate students may also be eligible for additional financial
support from the Graduate School. Additional information
about these opportunities are located on the graduate school
website.
