Application Instructions

General Information

The Integrated Biomedical Sciences program follows a 'rolling admissions' program, therefore, the earlier your application is complete the more likely your opportunity for an interview and admission. The priority deadline for a complete application is November 1 with committee review beginning December 1 of each calendar year.

You must apply BOTH to the IBS program as well as to the UK Graduate School:

IBS Application

When your on-line IBS application is complete, please submit the following documents to the IBS Program at the following address or fax to (859)257-4544:

Integrated Biomedical Sciences (IBS)
College of Medicine
University of Kentucky
138 Leader Ave, Room 114
Lexington, KY 40506-9983

  1. Copies of transcripts from each school attended at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Any degrees received should be clearly stated on the transcript. These can be photocopies; official transcripts will be required at time of admission.

  2. Copy of GRE student score report.

  3. Three letters of recommendation must be requested with your application:

    • As part of your electronic application, you will provide the name, title, address, and email contact for each person who will provide a letter of recommendation. When you submit that list, an email will be sent automatically to each of them with instructions and an evaluation form which they will return to our office electronically. We will personally verify random submissions; falsification will result in denial of admission to the program.
    • Letters should be from faculty, research mentors, or other instructors at the college level. They should not be from high school teachers, relatives, clergy, or elected officials.

  4. For international applicants:
    • Please send materials listed above to the appropriate addresses. Do not include materials other than those listed. Please place your materials in one envelope when sending documents to the IBS office. Do not staple individual documents or place documents in individual envelopes. However, if you send official copies of transcripts, they should arrive in sealed envelopes from the institution. You may send all of your documents to the IBS program and we will forward appropriate documents to the University of Kentucky Graduate School once your application is complete and has been reviewed for admission.

    • International applications will not be accepted after February 1.

UK Graduate School Application

In addition to the on-line application to the Graduate School, the following official documents must be sent to them:

  1. Official GRE Score Report (Use UK Code: 1837)
  2. Official TOEFL Score Report (Use UK Code: 1837)

Note: TOEFL is not required of native speakers of English or other international student whose last degree was earned at a US institution.

Official Transcripts

Upon admission to the Integrated Biomedical Sciences program, you will be required to submit an official transcript from each school you have attended, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Degrees earned must also be posted to the transcript.

If you are a UK graduate, you only need to submit official transcripts from any school you’ve attended since leaving UK.
