Welcome to the

Office of Research

I want to welcome you personally to the Office of Research in the College of Health Sciences. In the last several years, the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky has made a major commitment to building an internationally recognized research enterprise. I was hired in 2006 as the new Associate Dean for Research and was charged with building interdisciplinary research teams than bridge our two departments: Clinical and Rehabilitation Sciences. Our three major areas of focus are:

Reproductive Health
Voice and Language Disorders
Frailty Prevention

Our long term goal is to develop areas of research excellence in reproductive health and functional independence, with the latter emphasizing both mobility and communication skills. The Office of Research provides for project development and infrastructure for obtaining and managing extramural funding.

Projects include:

Regulation of ovulation to develop strategies to overcome infertility
Treatment of reproductive organ cancers
Understanding the aging voice and language processing
Overcoming feeding and swallowing disorders
Preventing muscle wasting during disuse and aging
Treatment of spasticity following spinal cord injury
Controlling muscle stem cell function with obesity, following injury, and during aging

All of our projects have a strong translational component such that research will lead to novel intervention and rehabilitation strategies to improve health and function by reducing illness and disability.
