March "Gnome" Award

The Staff Council would like to congratulate Margo Ubele on receiving the March “Gnome” Award! Margo is a full-time Laboratory Technician Senior in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and was nominated by Amy Ferry for always being willing to help out in the labs wherever, and whenever, she is needed. Congratulations Margo!!

Tornado Drill

With March 2012 being designated as Severe Storms Awareness Month, Kentucky Emergency Management has scheduled the 2012 Statewide Tornado Safety Drill for Tuesday, March 6, at approximately 10:07 a.m. EST. To trigger the drill on campus, the UK Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness will utilize the campus’s emergency notification system, UK Alert, to issue a university-wide TEST MESSAGE.

Prior to the drill, please take a moment to review the tornado/severe weather procedures at: Upon receipt of the tornado drill message on March 6, please conduct the drill and review your building’s emergency action plan. In the event of pending or inclement weather, the drill will be rescheduled.

Renew Your Parking Permit

University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services is now accepting employee and retiree parking permit renewal applications for permits that expire March 31, 2012. UK employees are encouraged to renew their permits at Employees may also apply for permit renewal via campus mail, by using printable forms found at or in person at Parking and Transportation Services, 721 Press Avenue (Parking Structure #6). Office hours for permit sales are 7:30 a.m. -6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Each year the UK Women's Forum uses the award to recognize an outstanding female faculty and staff member who have consistently promoted the well-being of other females at UK and throughout the Commonwealth.

Educational Enhancement Grants 2012


The call for Educational Enhancements awards for 2012-2013 is now open. The application can be accessed via the College website at by selecting “Education Enhancement Grants” and then “Information and Application”.

The committee asks that you please consider the following:

  1. All applications will be considered; however, the committee is especially interested in reviewing proposals that attract new revenue/additional students through distance learning, summer school or winter session.
  2. A Gantt chart is now required so faculty can provide a timeline for completion of project tasks and activities (template under ‘Information and Application’).
  3. In addition to the required written report, recipients will prepare a brief oral report for presentation at a College meeting. This report does not need to be submitted to the ADAA and is meant to showcase project objectives and results, and stimulate additional ideas.
