Now Accepting 2012-13 Ambassador Applications

The Office of Student Affairs is now accepting online applications for students interested in joining the College of Health Sciences Ambassadors.  This is a select group of students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics and student leadership. The College of Health Sciences Ambassadors serve the college and assist with student recruitment, speak to community and university groups, plan social, philanthropic and educational activities for peers, and represent the college at receptions and meetings.

To be eligible, students must be formally accepted into their respective program and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Other requirements are noted within the online application.

Nominations for the 2011-12 Employee of the Year award are now being accepted. Click here for Nomination forms as well as a list of eligible staff members.  Please submit nominations to Kristie Bruner (located in CTW 210) no later than Wednesday, April 4th.  All nomination forms must be signed and sealed in an envelope.

Jane Kleinert to Serve as Expert 

Dr. Jane Kleinert in CSD has been invited to be an expert panel member to the National Council on Disability’s “Raising Expectations: A Disability Framework for Education Reform” – on March 26-27, 2012 in Orlando, FL.

The National Council on Disability (NCD) is an independent federal agency charged with providing advice to Congress and the President. Dr. Kleinert will serve on the work group concerning Common Core and Access to the General Curriculum.

PT Student to represent KY at Federal Advocacy Forum

Daniel Brown, Physical Therapy class of 2013, was selected to represent Kentucky at the American Physical Therapy's Federal Advocacy Forum. Daniel will receive $500 in scholarship from the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association to attend the conference. Congratulations to Daniel!

College Internal Due Date for e-IAFs (electronic Internal Approval Forms)

Beginning with applications due on or after April 2, 2012, no proposal shall be submitted to any external funding agency unless a fully executed e-IAF has been received by OSPA at least three (3) business days prior to the sponsor's published deadline.  For more information, please see

The College of Health Sciences is implementing and requesting those submitting a proposal to have the eIAF completed an additional one week in advance before it is due to OSPA.  This will allow time for anyone affiliated with the proposal to review and certify the eIAF.  Please contact Nan Rice if you have any questions.

Faculty Brown Bag: Peer Instruction

Peer instruction is a teaching method created by Eric Mazur to help make lectures more interactive and to get students intellectually engaged. This method of teaching also gives instructors significant feedback about where the class is and what it knows.

Bring your lunch and learn how CHS faculty are using peer instruction to stimulate critical thinking and engage students.

Educational Enhancement Grants 2012


The call for Educational Enhancements awards for 2012-2013 is now open. The application can be accessed via the College website at by selecting “Education Enhancement Grants” and then “Information and Application”.

The committee asks that you please consider the following:

  1. All applications will be considered; however, the committee is especially interested in reviewing proposals that attract new revenue/additional students through distance learning, summer school or winter session.
  2. A Gantt chart is now required so faculty can provide a timeline for completion of project tasks and activities (template under ‘Information and Application’).
  3. In addition to the required written report, recipients will prepare a brief oral report for presentation at a College meeting. This report does not need to be submitted to the ADAA and is meant to showcase project objectives and results, and stimulate additional ideas.

Renew Your Parking Permit

University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services is now accepting employee and retiree parking permit renewal applications for permits that expire March 31, 2012. UK employees are encouraged to renew their permits at Employees may also apply for permit renewal via campus mail, by using printable forms found at or in person at Parking and Transportation Services, 721 Press Avenue (Parking Structure #6). Office hours for permit sales are 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Bioethics Grand Rounds

Topic: The Ethics of Donation After Cardiac Death

Speaker: Rebecca B. Yarrison, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, UK Program for Bioethics

Donation after cardiac death (DCD) has become a widespread practice in the last decade but remains controversial. In this presentation, Dr. Yarrison will explore the ethical challenges DCD presents by exploring such questions as “Are DCD donors really dead?” and “Can conflicts of commitment between the best interests of the donor and the best interests of the recipient be managed ethically?” as well as discussing possible solutions to those ethical challenges.

Women's Club Scholarship

The University of Kentucky Woman’s Club Scholarship was established to provide financial support to non-traditional students. A scholarship covering tuition at the resident rate will be awarded during the 2012-2013 academic year. All applicants who meet the eligibility requirements, as listed on the application, will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee, which will select the recipient according to the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have a cumulative UK GPA of 3.0 or better, based on a minimum of 12 UK undergraduate credit hours.
  • Applicants must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.
  • Applicants must be residents of Kentucky.

     Applicants must be in a degree program at the University of Kentucky as either a full-time or part-time undergraduate student. Preference will be given to female candidates.
