Williams assumed the distinguished position as Chair of the APHA's Health Administration Section at APHA 140th Annual Meeting held in San Francisco, CA this past October. Dr. Williams has been actively involved in the
Health Administration Section since joining the University of Kentucky’s
College of Public Health in 2008. He has served in a number of leadership
roles including Section Councilor on the Governing Council, and
Chair-Elect for this past year as well as Minority Whip for the
past three years.
Sharon Stewart was named a 2012 Fellow of the Association of Schools of
Allied Health Professions. The Award was presented at the Annual Conference of
ASAHP in Orlando on October 24. Nominees are selected for their long-standing
contributions to the allied health professions and to the ASAHP organization. Gilson Capilouto has been named a 2012 Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Fellowship is one of the highest honors of the Association. To be awarded Fellow, the nominee must have made outstanding contributions to the discipline of communication sciences and disorders. She will be recognized on Friday, November 16 at the ASHA Awards Ceremony of the annual at the annual ASHA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Back to Top Timothy Butterfield Receives GrantDr. Timothy Butterfield has been awarded a grant from NATA Research and Education Foundation in the amount of $49,049. The title of his grant is 'Load Dependent Effects of Massage on Immunomodulation and Afferent Diversity.' The Gods Pantry Food Drive has begun! A box to collect donated
canned goods and nonperishable items has been distributed to all
divisions/departments. Please let Kristie Bruner,
kbrun2@uky.edu and/or Margo Ubele
margo.f.ubele@uky.edu know when your boxes are full and need to be emptied,
and they will come and collect your items. The food drive will end on

2012 Education Innovation SummitThe University
Senate Council announces two open
forums to give faculty the opportunity to voice thoughts on how the first
and anticipated second round of budget cuts have or
will impact the University’s academic mission. These
forums will take place as follows: The University of
Kentucky College of Education invites you and your colleagues to attend the
2012 Education Innovation Summit, a professional gathering co-sponsored by
AdvancED Kentucky focused on creative ideas, research and innovation to help
transform P-12 and higher education in Kentucky, on November 29-30, 2012, at
the Lexington Convention Center. This year’s theme is Local Focus…Global
Impact, focusing on developing a deeper understanding of how to narrow the
global achievement gap and better prepare our students for a highly competitive
and challenging future. Among the featured
speakers is Tony Wagner. Dr. Wagner’s interactive presentation will draw from
his two most recent books, Creating Innovators: The Making of Young
People Who Will Change The World, and The Global Achievement Gap: Why
Even Our Best Schools Don’t Teach the New Survival Skills Our Children
Need—and What We Can Do About It. Global and local business and P-12 and
higher education leaders will participate, including UK President Eli
Capilouto; Gene Wilhoit, Executive Director, Council of Chief State School
Officers; Ron Townsend, Executive Vice President of Battelle’s Global
Laboratory Operations; Herb Miller, President, Columbia Gas; Bob Quick,
President and CEO, Commerce Lexington, as well as over 100 school leaders
from the Kentucky P20 Innovation Lab’s Next Generation Leadership Academy,
who work daily to create innovative learning environments for all students
to succeed in school, college and life. The Summit will
launch new and innovative programs and standards such as Kentucky STEMx
Network and the Next Generation for Civic Readiness - The State Standards
for Social Studies, as well as concluding the Summit with an Education IDEA
Festival led by Kris Kimel, President, Kentucky Science and Technology
Corporation, and other entrepreneurs. Bioethics Grand RoundsDate: November 13 UK College of Public Health Grand RoundsSpeaker: Stephanie Mayfield Gibson, MD, FCAP, Commissioner, KY Dept. for
Public Health UK School of Music's Tuesdays at NoonThis fall, the University of Kentucky School of
Music in conjunction with the UK Arts in HealthCare program will present a
series of performances in the Albert B. Chandler Hospital Pavilion A
Auditorium entitled Tuesdays at Noon. This collaboration also
marks the beginning of the new Lunch & Listen series, created
by the UK Arts in HealthCare program, further integrating the performing
arts into the healthcare setting as part of its mission to enhance the
healing environment. The concerts will consist of 35-40 minutes of music and
conclude with a “meet and greet” with the audience and musicians. All
performances will be open to the public and will be broadcast throughout the
hospital for the benefit of patients and staff who are unable to attend the
performances in person.
