Undergraduate Internship Opportunity
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is offering a ten week research experience for undergraduates. The internship, HS-STEM Summer Internship Program for Undergraduates, offers a $5,000 stipend plus travel expenses. This internship is for students interested in the following areas or research: engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological/life sciences, environmental science, emergency and incident management and social sciences. Deadline for application is January 5, 2012.

(2) Have demonstrated distinguished
service to his/her profession (may include monetary support);
(3) Have established a personal
reputation at either the local, state, national, or international level for
outstanding character and community service for a period of time sufficient in
length to reflect without reservation great credit and honor upon the
University; and
(4) Be able to provide an
outstanding role model for the current College of Health Sciences students.
(5) Not be in active service as a
University employee.

CDC Offers Undergrad Internships
Please inform your undergraduate students about these
exciting summer internship opportunities with CDC.
Collegiate Leaders in Environmental Health (CLEH)
is a 10-week (Wednesday, June 13, 2012 – Friday, August
17, 2012) summer environmental internship for undergraduate students who are
passionate about the environment, interested in human health, and curious about
how they are linked.
Interns will be placed in
environmental health programs at the US Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention’s (CDC)
National Center for Environmental Health
and the
Agency for Toxic Substances and
Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) at
CDC's
Chamblee Campus.
Over the course of the summer, interns will be exposed to a broad overview
of environmental public health issues at the federal level.
Interns will participate in environmental health
projects, interact with federal officials and scientists, and visit
important environmental health sites in and around Atlanta. Other activities
include "brown-bag" lunches with CDC staff, as well as attending lectures
from prominent environmental health leaders in the Atlanta area. In
addition, interns will be able to attend the many seminars offered by CDC
during the summer.o:p>
A stipend of approximately $600 per week will be provided
for living expenses. Travel to Atlanta will be the intern’s responsibility.
Potential housing options will be provided on the
housing page;
however interns will be expected to make their own arrangements. Applications
are open now, but the deadline for applying is February 1, 2012.
