All faculty are encouraged to think of any activity (scientific or scholarly) that leads to things like increased problem-solving skills, design or analysis of a project, production of new knowledge, or any contribution to a current research project (i.e. transcribing interviews, entering data, etc.). Information Regarding Long Distance & International Calls

Faculty and Staff, please review the important information below from Communications regarding Long Distance PIN # codes and international calling cards. If you desire a calling card for international calls please let Vicki Peavler or Denise McCarthy know. The Business Office will forward the request to Communications for the calling cards. If you have any questions, please contact Vicki at vyoung@email.uky.edu

New Long Distance Authorization Pin# Codes

Beginning September 1, 2011, CNS will replace existing employee 7 digit LD authorization PIN# codes with the employees 8-digit employee ID number (listed at the top of the employee pay statement ) as their new long distance code. At that time, employees who were previously authorized to make long distance calls will begin using their employee ID number to place long distance calls. Additionally, in September, employees will be able to view if they are approved for long distance access by viewing the Employee Self Service tab in the myUK portal. The long distance code change is part of the effort to improve operational efficiency and cost savings for the university.

Between August 1, 2011 – August 31, 2011, authorized employees will continue to use their 7 digit PIN.

Between August 1, 2011-August 31, 2011, requests to add or delete long distance PIN codes can be ordered by departmental managers as usual at http://www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/forms/contact.html.

On September 1, 2011, authorized employees will begin to use their 8 digit employee ID number for long distance calling.

International Phone Calls

When placing international phone calls, calling cards will be needed. Departments can request international calling cards for individual employees by completing the form available at http://www.uky.edu/IT/CNS/forms/CC_form.pdf.

New Bio-Statistical Support Information

The Applied Statistics Lab (ASL) is now available to enhance statistical support for both faculty and students. The ASL will provide researchers with a centralized location to seek advice for planning studies and implementing analysis. One of the advantages of centralized support is that requests requiring less statistical sophistication may be handled by a junior RA and more complicated requests may be triaged to a faculty member with specific expertise.

It is likely that Catherine Starnes (now a senior RA) will continue to work on projects for CHS as she did last year. Heather Bush, Ph.D., will continue her supervision of CHS projects and will ensure that the statistical needs of the college are met.

Effective immediately, please send all bio-statistical requests directly to Candace Brancato.

Athletic Training featured in JOSPT

Athletic Training faculty Dr. Jennifer McKeon and Dr. Tim Uhl, Kimberly L. Dolak (CHS Alumna), Carrie Silkman (RHB program student), Dr. Robert Hosey and Dr. Christian Lattermann (UK HealthCare physicians) were recently published in the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy. This work was funded by the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Training: Electronic Approval Form (e-IAF) Continues

Training for the e-IAF process for the fall semester will be held:

• Day: Every Tuesday

• Time: 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

• Dates: August 16 - December 6

• Location: Room 72 McVey Hall

 

There is no need to register for the class, which will go over a web based version of the electronic Internal Approval Form (e-IAF) that allows routing via workflow and electronic signatures. The e-IAF form is now available university wide. For questions or assistance with the e-IAF process, faculty and staff should notify their College Grants Officer (CGO) to assist them. If there is not a CGO, the Research Administrator (RA) should be contacted to assist. More information about the e-IAF can be found on the OSPA forms page. The hope is that the e-IAF process will reduce the administrative burden on researchers and staff.
