CHS Soap Drive

The CHS Student Ambassadors are leading a semester-long Soap Drive to benefit the residents of Shady Lawn and Parkside Manor in Cynthiana. As many of you know, our own Linda Allen generously devotes much of her time to the residents of these homes.  

You can help by bringing bars of soap or other toiletries (shampoo, lotion, etc.) to the Office of Student Affairs, CTW 111. These items are part of the everyday routine for us, but to the residents of Shady Lawn and Parkside Manor, these items are a small luxury. The goal is 1,000 bars. As you are aware, the University of Kentucky is hosting the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) April 3-5, 2014.  As part of the conference, we are offering participants the opportunity to explore Kentucky in a variety of ways.  We are excited to announce that these events are now open to our own campus community.  Please review these exciting opportunities below and take advantage of this offer by registering for these events.  Once you have created an account you may login and visit the “Extras Store” to sign up.  Accounts must be created using a .edu, .org, or .gov e-mail account.  Please do so by Friday, March 28.

The purpose of the account is to allow you to purchase ticketed items - you will not be charged for registration of any kind. Click here for a pdf with event information.

Women's Forum Seeking Nominations  

The UK Women’s Forum is an organization for all employees of the University—faculty and staff.  Our mission is to exert leadership role in empowering, validating, informing, including and celebrating all women employed at the University of Kentucky by addressing challenges and communication issues while recognizing successes within the context of the workplace.

It was officially created in 1992 and spent its first year surveying over 1,800 women on various issues and establishing the first Staff Appreciation Day.  The UK Women’s Forum was established as a place of open discussion, creativity and collective problem solving.  The board consists of 20 individuals:  18 elected Board members, the past chair and current chair.  There will be up to nine open spots for Board members this upcoming year.

The UK Women’s Forum will open its nomination period during the week of March 17th for a two week period.  We encourage any woman wanting to gain leadership skills, receive monthly professional development opportunities and provide critical development and networking opportunities, should consider nominating themselves.  A campus-wide election is held annually in the spring (late April) and elected nominees then serve a two year term on the Board.
