The CHS Office of Research is pleased to announce the availability of Undergraduate Research Enhancement Awards (UREAs) for faculty mentoring undergraduates in research. Three awards of $500 each are available for spring 2014. Faculty may use these funds to support student travel to present undergraduate research work, or to purchase lab supplies necessary for their respective research programs.

To apply for an award, please send an email to
Gilson Capilouto with a brief description of your work with undergraduates; including the name of a student you are working with this spring, and a breakdown of how you plan to use the award. The deadline for requests is January 24. Applications will be reviewed awards will be announced by February 3

Registration for the National Conference on Undergraduate Research is now open here.  Early-bird registration for students is $185; $225 on-site. Costs for students whose abstracts are accepted will be covered by the University. Faculty early registration is $195; $225 on-site. A preliminary program is also posted on the website. Please consider attending. CHS will host a table at the Graduate School Fair being held during the conference. More details to follow.

Good to Know

Teaching and Learning Conference CFP

Kentucky’s Council on Postsecondary Education is sponsoring a one-day conference May 16 entitled “Practicing Scholarly and Creative Teaching.”  The conference will be held in the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity at EKU. The Call for Proposals can be found here and the proposal submission form is located here.  Deadline for submissions is February 1. Questions should be addressed to Lynn Phillips at lynn.phillips@eku.edu.

UK Art Museum Presents 'Wide Angle' Photography Exhibit

Beginning this weekend, the Art Museum at the University of Kentucky is showcasing a new exhibition of 70 pictures taken by American photographers, ranging from the iconic documentary work of Walker Evans to the contemporary art of Carrie Mae Weems, who was recently awarded a MacArthur "Genius Grant" for her groundbreaking work. "Wide Angle: American Photographs from the Collection," which is free and open to the public, opens Jan. 26 and will run through April 27. Find out more here.
