Back to Top PT Career Fair - TODAY!

The annual Physical Therapy Career Fair will be held on Friday, Feb. 22 from 9:30-12:00 in the CTW Building throughout the first and second floors. There will be 48 physical therapy companies and healthcare facilities in attendance. Most of these facilities provide clinical education to CHS PT students. During the afternoon the third year PT students will interview with facilities of their choosing. For more information contact Leslie Simpson at or 218-0591.

The Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program hosted magicians Kevin and Cindy Spencer for a presentation on how magic tricks can aid patients in therapy. The presentation was met with a great response. Click here and here for media coverage.

The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) will provide in 2013 up to $15,000 in seed money for one new interdisciplinary research project that focuses on health and rehabilitation. The aims of the project and the investigators who work on it must represent more than one discipline (from within or external to a specific university). More information is posted under the heading Interdisciplinary Research Award in the Breaking News section in the middle column of the homepage at

One item in the program description that appears on the homepage needs to be changed. Applications should NOT be sent to anybody at the ASAHP office. Instead, ALL INQUIRIES AND APPLICATIONS should be sent to the grant review chairperson: Christopher Ingersoll at

The deadline for applying is March 15, 2013.

Priorities for the Research Award are as follows:

Position new scholars to seek larger extramural grants.

Align with priorities of leading extramural agencies (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, CDC).

Address translational, outcomes, and comparative effectiveness research.

Dr. Tim Uhl was recently honored at an event held by Transylvania University. He was the Athletic Trainer for Transy's 87-88 Championship Team, and was honored at a recent game on the 25th anniversary of the event. Dr. Uhl was an important part of the team and was recognized by Transy's Coach Don Lane.

It is time for faculty to begin preparing their 2013-2014 Distribution of Effort Forms. All faculty should have received an email with the DOE Memo outlining the timeline (PDF) and Instructions for the DOE Calculation Worksheet (PDF). New faculty members should download a blank DOE Calculation Worksheet from the link below. Returning faculty members should use the final copy of the work sheet provided to your division directors last year and make corrections/updates as necessary.

The forms will also be located on the Academic Affairs website under the Distribution of Effort tab.

The US Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) has awarded Gallaudet University a "Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Hearing Enhancement" (Grant #H133E080006) with Anne Olson (subcontractor), University of Kentucky to study the 'Efficacy of Aural Rehabilitation intervention with Adult Cochlear Implant Users'. The grant is awarded for one year. Congratulations, Anne!

Congratulations to Brian Noehren, PT, PhD for his recent grant award!  Dr. Noehren’s project, entitled “Prolonged alterations to muscle following knee surgery and physical therapy,” will be funded over a 5-year period (2013-2018) by the NIH-National Institute Of Arthritis And Musculoskeletal And Skin Diseases. Congratulations, Brian!

Created by the UK Women’s Forum, the Sarah Bennett Holmes Awards have been among the most esteemed recognitions bestowed at the University of Kentucky. The award recognizes two female UK employees, one faculty member and one staff member, for their contributions to issues that affect women at UK and across the commonwealth. All nominees will be recognized during the annual Sarah Bennett Holmes Awards luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Frank Harris Grand Ballroom of the Student Center. Luncheon reservations are open until Friday, March 1.
