 How Do I Handle This? Faculty Workshop on Dealing with Challenging Situations In and Out of the Classroom

The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) presents "How Do I Handle This? Challenging Situations In and Out of the Classroom," Wednesday, September 18 (repeated Thursday, September 19), from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., in the Niles Gallery, Lucille Little Fine Arts Library. Refreshments will be served.

This faculty workshop focuses on student incivility. Student incivilities in and out of the classroom are uncomfortable situations, whether it's texting or talking during class, dominating a discussion, using a laptop for non-class purposes, exhibiting prejudicial behavior, or other discourteous and disrespectful behavior. This workshop will focus on what could have been done to prevent or mitigate these incidences and what can be done if the behavior occurs. Register here.

6th Annual Health College Tailgate

You're invited to the 6th Annual Health College Tailgate, Saturday, September 28, time TBA, on the corner of Nicholasville Road and UK Farm Road. AHCTG is a university-wide event with students, faculty and staff from all UK health colleges. The tailgate will include food, drinks, games, and a DJ. Because the sole funding for this tailgate comes from T-shirt sales, everyone who would like to attend must purchase a t-shirt and wear it to the event. (T-shirts must be purchased for guests as well.) T-shirt prices are $13 for short sleeve and $15 for long sleeve. (Add an additional $2 each for XXL.) To order your t-shirt, please email T.J. 2013 Faculty Performance Reviews

All resource materials for the 2013 Faculty Performance Review process have been loaded to the CHS Academic Affairs website. Click on the gray bar labeled "Faculty Performance Review" to access the materials needed for this year’s process.

  • October 15 - Final date for faculty member to submit requests to Chairs for input from individuals outside of the unit as appropriate (e.g., supervisor for those in clinical practice). Requests should include the name, email address, and postal address of the source(s) so that the Chair may seek input from these individuals by letter.
  • November 1 - Deadline for faculty member to update entries to Digital Measures for 2013 and print out preliminary Faculty Performance Review Report (FPRR). Faculty members should make needed changes to the FPRR as described above. Any issues with Digital Measures or the FPRR should be corrected by this date.
  • November 15 - Deadline for faculty member to submit updated vita to Keturah Taylor for Standard Personnel File. This date is necessary to meet the SACS requirement.
  • November 15 - Final date for faculty member to submit packet, including electronic copy of FPRR, to Director. NOTE: FPRR can be updated at any time up to submission.
  • November 15 – Deadline for faculty member to contact the Department Administrative Assistant [Christa (clblac3@uky.edu) ext.80513) or Theresa (tcook1@email.uky.edu; ext.80477)] to schedule a 30-minute appointment to discuss the Review between the dates of January 30-February 15, 2014.
UK to Host 2014 National Conference on Undergraduate Research

The University of Kentucky will host the National Conference on Undergraduate Research on April 3-5, 2014. As many as 4,000 researchers from across the country as well as internationally will come to UK to present the results of their research efforts in the form of poster sessions and oral presentations. In addition, there will be numerous Plenary Speakers, Student Interest Sessions, UK Open Houses, presentations by student organization, special events and entertainment, and more. This will be a stellar opportunity for our undergraduate researchers to showcase their accomplishments and the productivity of the research groups with whom they work.

5th Annual KARRN Conference

The Kentucky Appalachian Rural Rehabilitation Network presents the 5th Annual KARRN Conference: Issues Related to Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke and Brain Injury. 'Tribute to Ballets Russes' Offers UK Employee, Student Discount

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the "Rite of Spring," the Lexington Ballet presents “Tribute to Ballets Russes” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, September 20, at the Lexington Opera House. As in years past, the ballet company is providing a discounted ticket price for University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff. This year, employees will save $3 and students will save $10.
